he National Traffic Safety Campaign in spring will be conducted for ten days from the 11th to the 20th. Although the number of traffic fatalities in the prefecture is the lowest among the six Tohoku prefectures, there has been no decrease compared to the previous year, so it is hoped that the campaign will further raise awareness of traffic safety among citizens.

During the campaign period, three points will be set as national priorities: (1) ensuring the safety of pedestrians, including children, (2) preventing pedestrian accidents and promoting safe driving awareness, and (3) promoting the use of bicycle helmets and adherence to traffic rules. The use of bicycle helmets has been encouraged since April 1.

In this prefecture, the focus will be on "preventing children's traffic accidents and promoting pedestrian-first awareness" as a regional priority, and activities such as enlightenment campaigns and crackdowns will be thoroughly implemented. On the 11th, a deployment ceremony will be held at the front parking lot of the prefectural assembly building (Akita City), with participation from prefectural and police officials, to promote the campaign. The final day, the 20th, will be "Zero Traffic Accident Death Day."

As of the 7th, the number of traffic fatalities in the prefecture is seven, an increase of one compared to the same day last year. By the way, Miyagi Prefecture has the most in Tohoku with 16 fatalities (an increase of 5 from the same day last year). Although the number in this prefecture is the lowest, it has not improved since last year, which saw an increase for the first time in four years, so the campaign is expected to lead to an improvement in the awareness of traffic safety among drivers and pedestrians.
